³¼DISK MAG REVIEWS¼³
²
There are so many mags, I thought I
might do some reviews of a few. So
here goes.
³Grapevine 10 - 3 disks
¹
What can I say? This is my personal
favourite. It`s all in English, has
LOADS of articles, and is easy to use.
The music is good, but gets "samey" if
you`ve listened to the music on other
Grapevines. The code by Shagratt is
bug free (I think) and doesn`t crash
unlike others. Lots of room to get
contacts, usual collection of jokes and
scene talk and interviews. What I find
good is the variety of articles. From
sci-fi, to cooking(!), to roleplaying
There is something for everyone! This
was delayed for a month due to Pazza
being busted but it was well worth the
wait.

³Deadlock 3 - 1 disk
¹
For one disk there are a LOT of artic-
les. Like Grapevine, it is a UK maga-
zine and concentrates on the UK scene.
A few interesting tips on coding, and
protection are supplemented by lots of
humour. Interviews and scene news ma-
kes sure the magazine keeps up to date.
There are of course lists, jokes, etc.
and adverts. R-9 has done well with
the code, getting rid of the bugs in
issue 2 like the back scrolling bug.
Nicely presented, and some nice music
is well. Overall a good magazine, but
just seems lacking something. I don`t
know what - it`s good, but isn`t that
special. But for the third issue, it`s
done better than many other mags would
have done at that stage.
²Rating: 72/100
³Cracker Journal 27/28 - 1 disk
¹
Hmmm. Of course their are the charts,
the interviews, the ads, the latest
news on doing illegal things but... the
interface is abominable! The text is
good, like any mag, but it lacks in
terms of numbers of articles. The
charts are like any, way presented, but
it is a shame the rest isn`t. The
fonts are awful and it strains your
eyes VERY badly after 5 minutes. The
music is very ordinary and just a dum
dum dum in the background. Choosing
which article to read is a real pain.
Come on Dr Mabuse! This is a good, if
not great magazine, but change the in-
terface please! Readers want to READ
the articles and not go blind!
²Rating: 46/100
³Raw 3 - 1 disk
¹
This is a very good magazine. It
sports a good selection of music, and
the articles are mostly about compu-
ters. The presentation is faultless,
spot on. The next issue should be a
real cracker. Articles cover many to
pics, from Odyssey to the Mantronix and
Tip controversy. Reviews of disk mags,
demos, and party results are on this
disk which is a good idea as no-one
gets a chance to go to all the parties
around. I think there`s a bug in the
modules select bit, Newspaper Groove
just wouldn`t load, and it crashed on
me a couple of times. Besides this,
the magazine is a great read if you
want to get to know more about the
scene in central and northern Europe.
Not much to interest the UK scene, but
still a good read. Maybe a little
variety is needed in the articles to
spice it up. Excellent stuff.
²Rating: 85/100
³Nordic Report 3 - 1 disk
¹
This diskmag features the slickest, and
best interface ever! It is so easy to
use and there is also good music in the
background. Like Strangers say, it is
NOT an ordinary mag. It has an amusing
gallery section, the charts, and a few
articles. Yep. There isn`t much in
the way of articles but what there is
concentrates on the Nordic scene (hence
it`s title). It really isn`t much use
to the mainland european or UKer, but
it is interesting, especially the
charts. Good coding all round. They
should however get the pictures to be
in lo-res. I know quality is better in
med-res but it takes a lot of room,
room which should be for more articles.
If you live in Scandinavia, you`d be
mad to miss it.

³Suicid 1 - 1 disk
¹
This is a new disk mag from the people
at Grace and Energy (Austria). Nice
music, nice interface, in fact it`s
pretty good for a first issue. But
like every first issue, it NEEDS sup-
port. It is looking good, and it would
be a shame for it to die. Floid and
co. have done a good editing job, but I
feel the font should be changed. Well,
maybe the text colour. It really was
terrible and gaudy. The articles,
well, it needs support so do write for
them, but they were pretty okay for a
first issue. This should become a real
big mag in the future so keep your eye
out for it. Before it loads, there is
a pretty cool intro. Why didn`t you
use the music from the intro in the
mag? It is harmonic and would suit the
mag better. Oh, well, I`ll definitely
be getting the next issue - what about
you?
²Rating: 61/100

Now thats it! Remember, these reviews
are my honest opinions about the mags
and it`s got nothing to do with Top
Secret! If you feel I have been harsh,
I have tried some constructive criti-
cism to make mags better. Generally
speaking, most mags ( including ones
reviewed), are all of a high standard.
Let`s keep it that way and make them
even better!!
