  4. There  are  so many mags, I  thought  I 
  5. might do some  reviews  of  a  few.  So
  6. here goes.

  9. ³Grapevine 10 - 3 disks
  10. ¹
  11. What  can  I  say?  This is my personal 
  12. favourite.  It`s all  in  English,  has 
  13. LOADS of articles, and  is easy to use.  
  14. The music is good, but  gets "samey" if 
  15. you`ve listened to  the  music on other 
  16. Grapevines.  The  code  by  Shagratt is 
  17. bug free (I think)  and  doesn`t  crash 
  18. unlike others.  Lots  of  room  to  get 
  19. contacts, usual collection of jokes and 
  20. scene talk and interviews.  What I find 
  21. good is the variety of  articles.  From 
  22. sci-fi, to cooking(!),  to  roleplaying 
  23. There is something for  everyone!  This 
  24. was delayed  for  a  month due to Pazza 
  25. being busted  but it was well worth the 
  26. wait.

  31. ³Deadlock 3 - 1 disk

  33. For one disk  there are a LOT of artic-
  34. les.  Like Grapevine, it is a UK  maga-
  35. zine and concentrates on the UK  scene.  
  36. A few interesting tips  on  coding, and 
  37. protection are  supplemented by lots of 
  38. humour.  Interviews  and scene news ma-
  39. kes sure the magazine keeps up to date.  
  40. There are of course lists,  jokes, etc. 
  41. and adverts.  R-9 has  done  well  with 
  42. the code, getting rid  of  the  bugs in 
  43. issue 2 like the  back  scrolling  bug.  
  44. Nicely presented, and  some  nice music 
  45. is well.  Overall a good magazine,  but 
  46. just seems lacking something.  I  don`t 
  47. know what - it`s good, but  isn`t  that 
  48. special.  But for the third issue, it`s 
  49. done better than many other  mags would 
  50. have done at that stage.

  55. ³Cracker Journal 27/28 - 1 disk
  56. ¹
  57. Hmmm.  Of course their  are the charts, 
  58. the interviews,  the  ads,  the  latest 
  59. news on doing illegal things but... the 
  60. interface  is  abominable!  The text is 
  61. good, like any  mag,  but  it  lacks in 
  62. terms  of  numbers  of   articles.  The 
  63. charts are like any, way presented, but 
  64. it  is  a  shame  the  rest isn`t.  The 
  65. fonts are awful  and  it  strains  your 
  66. eyes VERY badly  after  5 minutes.  The 
  67. music is very ordinary  and  just a dum 
  68. dum dum  in  the  background.  Choosing 
  69. which  article  to read is a real pain. 
  70. Come on Dr Mabuse!  This  is a good, if 
  71. not great magazine, but  change the in-
  72. terface please!  Readers want  to  READ 
  73. the articles and not go blind!

  78. ³Raw 3 - 1 disk
  79. ¹
  80. This  is  a  very  good  magazine.   It 
  81. sports a good selection of  music,  and 
  82. the articles are  mostly  about  compu-
  83. ters.  The  presentation  is faultless, 
  84. spot on. The next  issue  should  be  a 
  85. real cracker.  Articles  cover  many to
  86. pics, from Odyssey to the Mantronix and 
  87. Tip controversy.  Reviews of disk mags, 
  88. demos, and party results  are  on  this 
  89. disk which is a  good  idea  as  no-one 
  90. gets a chance to  go to all the parties 
  91. around.  I think there`s a bug  in  the 
  92. modules  select  bit, Newspaper  Groove 
  93. just  wouldn`t  load, and it crashed on 
  94. me a  couple  of  times.  Besides this, 
  95. the  magazine  is  a  great read if you 
  96. want  to  get  to  know  more about the 
  97. scene  in  central and northern Europe.  
  98. Not much to interest the UK scene,  but 
  99. still a  good  read.   Maybe  a  little 
  100. variety  is  needed  in the articles to 
  101. spice it up.  Excellent stuff.

  105. ³Nordic Report 3 - 1 disk
  106. ¹
  107. This diskmag features the slickest, and 
  108. best interface ever!  It is so easy  to 
  109. use and there is also good music in the 
  110. background.  Like Strangers say, it  is 
  111. NOT an ordinary mag.  It has an amusing 
  112. gallery section, the charts, and a  few 
  113. articles.  Yep.  There  isn`t  much  in 
  114. the way of articles but  what  there is 
  115. concentrates on the Nordic scene (hence 
  116. it`s title).  It really isn`t  much use 
  117. to the mainland european  or  UKer, but 
  118. it   is   interesting,  especially  the 
  119. charts.  Good  coding  all round.  They 
  120. should however get  the  pictures to be 
  121. in lo-res.  I know quality is better in 
  122. med-res but it  takes  a  lot  of room, 
  123. room which should be for more articles. 
  124. If you live in  Scandinavia,  you`d  be 
  125. mad to miss it.

  130. ³Suicid 1 - 1 disk
  131. ¹
  132. This is a new disk mag from the  people 
  133. at Grace and  Energy  (Austria).   Nice 
  134. music,  nice  interface, in  fact  it`s 
  135. pretty good for  a  first  issue.   But 
  136. like every  first  issue, it NEEDS sup-
  137. port.  It is looking good, and it would 
  138. be a shame for it to  die.   Floid  and 
  139. co. have done a good editing job, but I 
  140. feel the font should be changed.  Well, 
  141. maybe the text colour.  It  really  was 
  142. terrible  and   gaudy.  The   articles, 
  143. well, it needs support so do write  for 
  144. them, but they were pretty okay  for  a 
  145. first issue.  This should become a real
  146. big mag in the future so keep  your eye 
  147. out for it.  Before it loads,  there is
  148. a pretty cool  intro.  Why  didn`t  you 
  149. use the music  from  the  intro  in the 
  150. mag? It is harmonic and would suit  the 
  151. mag better.  Oh, well, I`ll  definitely 
  152. be getting the next issue - what  about 
  153. you?

  158. Now thats it!  Remember, these  reviews 
  159. are my honest opinions  about  the mags 
  160. and it`s  got  nothing  to  do with Top 
  161. Secret!  If you feel I have been harsh, 
  162. I have tried  some  constructive criti-
  163. cism to  make  mags  better.  Generally 
  164. speaking,  most  mags  ( including ones 
  165. reviewed), are all of a high  standard. 
  166. Let`s keep it that way  and  make  them 
  167. even better!!
